INXS rock band searching for singers

8 February 2005

The rock band ‘INXS’ is holding auditions for singers to replace the late member of the band, Michael Hutchence. The audition is part of a reality television series to be broadcasted on July in the US.

On the debut of the search, INXS band member Tim Farriss had said, "After Michael died, we wanted to search the world for a new singer but didn't know how we could effectively do that."

According to him, the set-up of the TV show is a great way to make the search happen.

INXS Rock Star reality TV show will be produced by Mark Burnett Productions. The TV series will be broadcasted by US TV network CBS in July.

The winner will earn a record album and a concert tour with the band INXS.

The INXS band was formed in 1977 in Sydney. The late Hutchence was a pioneer member of the band. In 1983, INXS band became Australian superstars with their third record album ‘Shabooh Shoobah’. The band’s fame continued after four years with their album ‘Kick’, which consists of hit singles like New Sensation, Devil Inside, Need You Tonight, and Never Tear Us Apart. During INXS’ fame, the band sold over 30 million copies of their album worldwide.

Their career’s turning point was the death of Hutchence in November 1997 when he was found hanged. Since Hutchence’s death, the band temporarily performed along with soul singer Terence Trent D’Arby and had a concert tour with former Noiseworks frontman Jon Stevens.

The search was already held in Canada and US, with further auditions soon to take place in Australia and New Zealand in March.
