New Spice Girls’ single release to attract new fans

23 October 2000

The ‘Forever’ album of the Spice Girls is aimed at their new and more mature fans. It comes with a sexy video and is the first single of the female group after more than two years.

The songs ‘Holler’ and ‘Let Love Lead The Way’ are featured in the double A-side of the album. ‘Forever’ follows the ‘Goodbye’ album, which was released in December 1998.

The Spice Girls is composed of Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie B, and Melanie C. Victoria had a son in 1999 and Melanie C also gave birth to a baby girl. In the same year, Victoria married David Beckham, a football star.

In 1996, the group took the lead in the pop charts but were later claimed by many imitators during their absence. In Britain, they scored No. 1 hits eight times. Their total albums sold reached 35 million across the world.

The ‘Forever’ album offers a more sedate sound to fans. It was approved in Britain but some critics say it is “bland” and lacks the “Spice Girl attitude”. It was set for release on November 6.

‘Holler’ and ‘Let Love Lead The Way’ were produced and co-written by Rodney Jerkins. In ‘Holler’, the four were compressed into black leather. The girls appear moody but mean.

Shops in London are expecting another ‘Spicemania’. Winning fans locally and abroad remain a question, though.

"It's the Spice Girls, I wouldn't bet on it not selling", said a spokesperson of Tower Records in London's West End. "They're not a teen band any more; their fans have grown up with them... but this should be a number one hit", he said.
